any issues with help 4taxes

anybody have any issues with help 4taxes located on macallister drive? my sister and her husband had calculated what they were expecting. my sister had went to the help 4taxes place to get them to do the paper work. they calculated her income.. they told her that they were getting back was $600. so she told the girl that she change her mind and going to send it in herself. my sister and her husband had calculated $4000. and thats what they got back when they send it in their self.

this was last year when they were filing their taxes

Interesting that everyone lept to the conclusion that the tax professionals got it wrong, and not your sister/husband. The tax system is largely one of trust, except when you get audited since only a small portion of tax returns are gone through with a fine tooth comb. They would likely get the $4,000 back even if they calculated in error and had some incorrect deductions or assumptions, for example about which spouse was to take credit for things like day care costs.

It would have been a good exercise for your sister/husband to have challenged the refund calculations with them to find out who was right and who was wrong, rather than assume that because their own calculations showed a higher refund, that it automatically made theirs the right one.

If they calculated their taxes and it turns out that they failed to disclose income, if they get audited they could very well be penalized upwards of $3000 - depending on how big the infraction is.

Best of luck to them, I hope all turns out. Personally, I'd agree with girdy and would have questioned the pros. As he says on the raido - he's done over 100,000 returns....

my sister is not the type that would put a complaint about it. I told her that she should of cause it could benefit for others and it will penalized them. regards to errors I don't know how often or if they do make errors at a tax place. this consider a big error.. this person maybe need more training I don't know.

they have done over 100,000 returns.. how would you know that for sure?

this was last year .. so they lost a customer. no worries

Well - I was just basing that on what their radio commercial says. when you pay someone to do your taxes (as I understand it...) the person doing your taxes is at least partially responsible because you actually disclose that you paid someone to do them on your submission form and if they're making a lot of mistakes they would probably lose their license. I'm not saying that these guys are good or bad, I've never heard either. (and I do my own taxes because they're pretty standard). I'm sure if they have done sooo many returns that they have made a mistake or two :-)

Taxes are mostly done by filling in the PROPER blank spaces in a software application, so if you know what you are doing, you cannot go wrong, because it automatically calculates as you fill in the blank spaces. Someone made a mistake somewhere. $600 to $4000, wow that is a huge difference.

I haven't had any probleemmss with them. have questioned a few things.
I hope they get back the 4000, clear.
but I found out this year, that last year my 2003 return was re-assessed and I owe 700.
they can, and will go back years looking for mistakes
good luck to them

I can read it fine, even the big words.
I got mine back as well, back then.
I was just saying IF a mistake was made, they can be re-assessed years from now.

I was re-assessed last year for the income tax year of 2003.

I owed almost $1000 after the audit.

I beleive they can go back Seven years.

taxes

yes - the gov't can go back 7 years. They can make you prove that whatever you claimed was a legitimate deduction per their standards and all receipts must be produced. Do not under any circumstances give them your only copies! Always make copies and keep in your files. With all the tax changes from year to year an honest mistake can be made if you are not aware of all the newest tax laws - but the onus is on you to prove you are right! Yes, the professionals are always out there and yes they are human, but take care in who you see and just what is under all that sugar coating. Ensure you go to a reputable company.

I still prefer uFile, 15.95, you input your numbers and it calculates for you. I have done all sorts of things, some years I owed 500-1700. One year I thought I owed them $900, Rev Canada actually recalculated a mistake I made and I was due a $600 refund instead. ever since I started using Ufile, every year has been a refund. I filed my taxes yesterday, waiting for my $680 now.
