Lights in the sky..what do you think about them?

http://telegraphjournal.canadaeast.c...article/120032
lol, that is just crazyness ...

Also, apparently the building going up near the trailer park by walmart is going to be a motel 8.. even tho they're building another hotel near eastpoint shopping center (where those stupid lights are located). My friend told me this and i was like.. they must know something we don't. He said he thinks there's going to be a casino put in out east so they are trying to "glamorize" that part of the city before it gets here.

Anyone have any thoughts / opinions?

Honestly you know what this reminds me of???
You know that big ugly, "lighted" Saint John sign they put up years ago? The one that half the letters have been burned out for years and never replaced? Yea seems like another brilliant move on the cities part.

i believe it said One hundred Thousand... but still lol
All i see happening are the ppl that do see it and wonder what it is, and then come in, instead of going to their original destination, will just be dissapointed that all it is is a bunch of stores lol

They better do something....I think anything is better than nothing...kinda looks neat in the picture....heck of a lot better than the dull dried up 8million dollar building they're going to put up on the waterfront.

The city didn't pay for the lights, the Northrups did! Hey if they have that kind of money to pump out for lights, all the power to them! The sole purpose is to attract people to the shopping complex and since it's not doing any harm by having the lights (and that they, the Northrups are paying for it NOT the city) what's the harm?

Eastpoint

Ok the blinking light was annoying enough. What's with the funky spotlights? Please tell me they aren't permanent.

There's no harm at all. Some people in this city will bash anything and everything given the chance. Heck, perhaps those lights will draw all the moths out of my end of town to the east side in the summer months.

I think its kinda kool and as long as it doesnt become a driving hazard as people would be watching the lights and not the road im cool with it.and as far as the casino. its not a casino it supposed to be a racino and also rumours of a new hockey rink and indoor soccer field are floating around as possibilities. i say if the piece of crap underground gas line was apporved for this city why not something positive until the pip,e line blows us away. people in this city just like to crap all over every idea possible yet not come up with any positive "realistic" ideas of their own and put them into action. a lot of talkers here and no do'ers!

well you know what i'm getting sick of.. the ppl who "bash" the "some people" who have to "crap all over everything" There are LOTS of ppl on this site.. and LOTS of people state their opinions. Just because they are negative doesn't mean people like you have to "crap all over" them. That's your opinion , and this ismy opinion. I think the lights are stupid, and make the city look "cheaper" than it already looks.
Just cuz you 're not complaining about this particular thing, doesn't mean you've never complained about something in your life.. oh that's right, you just complained about ppl complaining. You think it's ppl with negative opinions on things are annoying, well i get annoyed with the ppl that come onto other ppls topics and put them down for having their opinion.

Actualy its Best Western, not Motel 8. The motel 6 is going on the west side.

The lights are obnoxious and a waste of energy. Kind of defeats the purpose of SJ energy giving out rebates for switching to LED lights.

guess what its city life get used to it or move tothe sticks and stay there.we need more attention on this city and it really doesnt matter if its lights ,a racino,or etc. as long as its positive. i wasnt crapping on you specifiaclly for your opinon but heck i certainly can if thats the route this thread is taking.what im saying is the whole reason moncton have all the things they have is they have do'ers not just people who talk. my only concern is they may cause drivers to lose focus on the road. i truly dont see how a set of lights make a town look cheap but maybe thats just me.i just hope when something big and postive goes to moncton instead of saint john i dont see a thread that is whining about that but im sure i will because it wouldnt be saint john unless that happened. i love saint john dont get me wrong but people who flip flop confuse me

We seen them the other night, and I was mesmerized by them, both hubby and I thought they looked really cool.

I want my city to grow.

Geeze, I don't see what everyone is getting so upset about!Personally I think it's refreshing to see a new (to Saint John) take on marketing and promotion! Sure beats those tacky, ugly signs with the neon letters!
