According to our family doctor the big thing to watch for is a high fever and the child is very lethargic. All they want to do is sleep, no appetite. Our doctor said if the child shows those signs to get medical attention. If there are no apparent breathing issues, go to the family doctor, as they can assess the child and prescribe the "Tamiflu" I think thats what its called, its the medication to treat H1N1.

Seek medical attention....Blah!!! I went with my nine month old to St. Joe's after a fourth day of intermittant fever, lethargy, anorexia, severe runny nose, croupy sounding cough, diarrhea causing severe caustic diaper rash. to be told that besides teething she was otherwise energetic and hydrated and to try to feed mashed potatoes and apple sauce and that was it!!!
Needless to say my children ended up getting over it (and I'm quite certain my son was exposed to H1N1 at Stepping Stones prior to his vaccination then passed it on to his sister, then me and now finally my husband) the old fashioned way, no testing, treating symptoms as they occurred with Tylenol (only when the temp was dangerously severe) and cough medicine (for my 4 year old), plenty of rest and fluids which in my opinion is better for their immune system and less chance of creating "super bugs" resistant to anti-viral medications. Luckilly for us as it went through the family the symtoms were less severe (most likely because we were vaccinated), however it was quite nasty for the two children for a week and a half. The baby has now finally had a good full day of eating all of her meals and actually laughing!!! As a parent it's hard to see your baby of nine months who should be progressing in development go a whole week and a half without a simple giggle.
