lol...sand provides traction?? are you crazy? Sand can make a car fish tail off the road just as easily.

Salt is not used in other cities because of the damage it does to your cars..thats why.

Salt does melt ice, but it dissolves. No traction.

Sand is not good on asphalt yes, but ontop of snow and ice it works great.

Yeah it is on the radio that they are shutting them down. All buses have to be back at the shop by 6...so most buses will probably stop around 5...

Stay Home!

Not stuck, STALLED. The amount of water down is incredible and the puddles are huge- I sat on the side of the road myself for 20 minutes til my car dried out. I called my part time job in Rothesay and said I wasn't coming in, it's too dangerous! STAY HOME unless you have a truck or an SUV, while it isn't freezing yet, when it does it will be a killer. As far as salt or sand, right now that is pointless, it would be like throwing handfuls of sand in Lily lake, AVOID BAYSIDE DRIVE, ROTHESAY AVENUE AND THE CAUSEWAY. huge unending puddles in all 4 lanes. If you aren't blinded by the curtain of water, thrown into oncoming traffic by hydroplaning, then likely your car will stall from being soaked or like me, when you need them, you will find your brakes so soaked as to be nearly non responsive.

Hubby just called me and said some are going back to the yard at 6 some at 7. He said the best thing to do is call 658-4721 to see if your bus is still running.

ok, the driving out there is so bad I came home and signed up for CAA membership online within 20 minutes of walking in the door. I should have done it long ago. I hope my car will start in the morning. It will probably be frozen in 3 inches of ice LOL.

Right now, it really isn't slippery as such, its just such deep water everywhere. I should have known better when it was up over my boots to just walk to my car. I have never seen so much water- Broad St, Crown st, the causeway appears half underwater, Rothesay avenue is a series of large ponds... The car ahead of me that stalled was (oddly enough) the exact same make and model as mine, Ford Escort wagon, just a different colour. There was another car that appeared stalled at the corner of the Hampton Road and the turnoff to Rothesay Avenue, and it looked like it was fairly high off the ground, unlike my lowrunner.

The Town of Quispamsis hasn't used sand on the roads in a couple of years. All they use are salt.
