Question

Hi,
I know this may be off topic.
When i lived in saint john my dad use to take our garbage to this place around the west side. All i can remember it was a brick building, open in the front with a big smoke stack, and i could see the huge flames within, and they would throw the garbage in there to be burned.Just wondering if this is still there or was it closed down?

The remnants from the dump are still there though...

Olds cars, washers and dryers and the list goes on... A real environmental disaster as it all flows into the Saint John River.
The site should really be cleaned up....

The Milford burner, as well as the ones which were in Pokiok, were originally lime burners for the lime businesses in both locations. The City used them to burn garbage for about 2 decades+/-. If there is still garbage at the Milford site, you should take photos and send them to the newspaper..sounds like a good story here.

Yes there was a burner on Pokiok Road. My Dad worked there for a while and we lived 2 beaches over in Welch's cove...where my grandfather fished from...he and my grandmother lived there too. In my day you could see abandoned lime kilns all along the Saint John River. Dad also worked for the Snowflake Lime Co...down on Pokiok Road near Bridge Street.

I never see any message posted about Pokiok Road...any ex-or present Pokiokers out there.
