Samsung Blu-Ray players, big disappointment

Ok so I bought a Samsung Blu-Ray for christmas gone by and nothing was ever mentioned about periodic updates which "I" was suppose to do. The only way I found this information out was we were trying to watch a Blu-Ray movie and it wouldn't play, it said "This disc cannot be played" lol seriously; so I called blockbuster to see if this was a problem with the disc and they said that is a problem with the Player that it needed an update and I should call the store I bought it from; so I called that popular television appliance store and they said I have to download it from the Samsung site. A bit annoyed I asked why I wasn't told when I purchased it and he couldn't tell me why no-one told me, not even an apology.

So I've been trying to get it from the site but it doesn't seem to be working so well, just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem, and if anyone has successfully downloaded the update???? And if you've been lucky not to have this happen yet, be prepared it may.....

I updated the firmware in both of my BluRay players, as per instructions in the users manuals, as soon as I purchased them. One of them is a Samsung, and the other is a Panasonic. I didn't encounter any problems for either of the updates.

Yes, they probably should have mentioned the need for firmware updates on BluRay players if they knew you were a first time BluRay owner, but Samsung, as well as the other BluRay manufacturers, all include that info in your user's manual.

If it has a network jack, plug it in to your internet connection. Mine is connected all the time, and will tell me when updates are available, and download them automatically.
