To catch the little suckers, put some wine or fruit juice in a glass, cover the glass with saran wrap, and then poke a few tiny holes in the saran wrap. The flies are attracted to the sugar and will fly in through the holes and become trapped. This did the trick for us!

We seem to get the darn things flitting around every year, and yes it is our lil green box inside the house they seem to be attracted to. We use the same technique that you suggested lissa, except we didn't try it with juice.
We take an apple or orange and slice it up. Then we use washed out yogurt containers or something along the lines of that, place the fruit inside, and then put the saran wrap over. I find a pencil is too big unless it is really sharp because you don't want to poke the holes to big. Do it quite small. The buggers climb in, but cannot get back out. Lissa is right, it works like a charm! Keep doing that and within a few days you will see them disappear!
