Toiletry items are always great to bring as they are expensive for Cubans to purchase. Crayons and coloring books for the kids are great as well.

You could stay in places where people who work there get a wage decent enough that they don't need handouts from visitors to get by (ie, not an AI, and a place owned by a local family/business and not some big resort company). Staying at a resort where the locals still have to hang on through tourist donations of toothpaste and other items is gross. You should feel ashamed to support this type of tourism and yet you feel good about yourselves because you brought some Old Spice with you on your trip down south.

danj, thank God we have people like you on this site to be the moral compass for everyone else.

The question was simple, what should they bring?

I don't think that they should be attacked for that, it's their money and if they want to spend it on a resort ALL the power to them.

duckgt.....If you are going off the resort its nice to take some things to give to the local children and families that you may come into contact with. They are very appreciative of the gifts as they are not associated with the resort staff. If you go to the Dollar Store you will get many items, just keep in mind they have to be in small amounts to get through customs.
