Tonsillectomy

My friend had his tonsils out on Weds and after surgery the doctor mentioned he had "reshaped" the soft palate as well. I was just curious as to why he had done this. I googled it and it seems to be about snoring possibly, but my friend doesn't snore. Is there any reason that the surgeon would do this?

He may have had a congentital malformation or upon removal of the tonsil ther may have been some issue with sewing the edges of the wound. Could be a lot of reasons. He may have had too much tissue down there and the surgeon removed it to prevent possible problems in the future. There could have been one of a dozen or more reasons. Nothing is done for the fun of doing it. Best thing is to ask the doctor when he goes back for recheck.

FYI, go easy on the ice cream and milk products for the first few days.

My husband had his tonsils out, because they were so inflamed, his pallet was almost an inch long, the Dr took off about 3/4 of an inch. He said he has only seen a pallet that long a few times. He also said that should cut down on his snoring, and it had greatly.
