Would you buy a computer

at Staples...I've been looking at laptops and was talking to a very nice young man at their west side store..

The prices are good, the names are the same as most other computer stores..not sure of their customer back-up service etc..

what do you think?

No. I am sure they are nice, but I also bought a computer from a box store. The problem with that, is for much of the warranty, they don't do the work there. They have to send it away!

It don't matter where you'd get your Computer from. If its in the first year of warranty they send it away to their repair center, Just don't get an HP computer I have had one for just over 2 years and had it repaired about 10-11 times and replaced twice. I don't recommend getting any computer without any type of extended warranty....

I have an HP Touchscreen computer and I have had no problems with it at all in the 2 yrs. I have had it. I bought it at the Future Shop and they are great if there is something on it that I cannot quite understand or figure out what I did wrong and need to correct. I also got the extended warranty. To me it was well worth it since I paid such a high of a price for it. Better to be safe than sorry.

I have owned several Hp computers. Laptops and desktops. Never had any problems. If you have dirty power in your home, (and a lot of homes in Saint John do) that can cause a lot of problems with electronics. Especially computers.

Plus there is always a few from any brand that will be problematic. Unless you buy from a local computer store, not a box store. They all send them away. As long as you know that going in, then there should be no problem. Turn around times are ussualy pretty good. Unless the problem is a major one.

Does it really matter what brand name you choose...Acer, EMachine etc etc.
what numbers should I be looking for in the specs? I am so computer challenged..
I've had a Dell for about 6 years and it's been fine.

I purchased my computer , an HP from Staples 2 years ago and have had no problems with it.
As far as future shop goes, the cost of their extended warrenty is double what you would pay at other stores. This was my experience when I was going to purchase several ipod touches for my kids for Christmas. Needless to say, the ipods were purchased elsewhere. (and yes it is the same insurance)

Power is supposed to be in waves, smooth, consistent. What he means is that it becomes blocks. Not smooth, more dips and surges. Not consistent. A UPS (Battery backup) is well worth the investment and I would recommend one to anybody who owns a computer.

Acer machines are touch and go. Unless you know how to solve your own computer problems, I would tend to stay away from Acer. In 10 years of working on computers, I've actually found HP to be a very good brand. Compaq isn't so great though, which is now owned by HP but their cheaper version of their machines.
