Human Swine Influenza
General Information
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is tracking clusters of severe respiratory illness linked to human swine influenza in Mexico. Deaths have been reported. Mexico is currently experiencing an extended influenza season, and cases normally involve healthy young adults. For more information, please see the PHAC Travel Health Warning. The PHAC is also tracking isolated cases of swine influenza in the United States, though there have been no deaths reported.
Official Warning
An official warning has been issued by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada against non-essential travel for Mexico. For additional information, please visit the Travel Report for Mexico. Canadians in Mexico should monitor local news reports and follow the advice of local authorities.
Recommendations
The PHAC recommends that travellers follow the same precautionary measures as with seasonal influenza. These include receiving a seasonal flu vaccine, washing your hands often, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when ill. Canadians who have recently travelled to Mexico and who develop symptoms of influenza or severe respiratory illness, especially high fever are advised to seek medical attention immediately. Candians travelling in Mexico who develop symptoms of influenza or human swine influenza should see seek medical attention immediately. A list of doctors and hospitals can be found on the Canadian Embassy in Mexico’s website at http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca...gence/med.aspx. The Mexican Ministry of Health has also set up a hotline to provide advice and further information: 01-800-123-1010 (Spanish only).

The following countries have begun screening passengers arriving from Mexico for flu symptoms:
