WOW! thats not good. glad your ok though. We pay what almost 50% of our gross pay to tax then we buy stuff and pay more tax, people pay tax on interest from money they have in the bank. With all that money the Gov gets there should have someone work on a Sunday to run those things.

I hear ya! Our pathetic health care system has failed me as well. The last 9years of my live have been a living ----! There is alot of things that need improvement within the province of NB for health care. Since I had to go to Ontario for proper health care from 2003-2006, I have seen the difference in health care in the two provinces. It really is quite sad!

The health care system has failed me a few times as well. Once I went in to have 4cm stone removed from my kidney and when I woke up I couldnt breath and thought I was dying, I told them I couldnt breath and they told me "you wouldnt be able to talk if you could breath". It took them 9 days of me in extreme pain to find out that had hit my lung and it had filled with over 900ml of blood. My specialist I have now I love to death and he makes sure to listen to all my complaints. Im one of those people who always have those less than 1% chance things happen. He really does hate putting me under, he never knows what to expect.

I'm sorry guys but I have nothing bad at all to say about that hospital. They have helped me in soo many ways with my daughter. Three weeks after she was born she had a stomach condition and she had to have an operation. They were great then and they are great now with us. Both times we went to the emerg. they were great to us. I owe alot to the Doctors and Nurses that work there. Both times I could have lost my little girl. Maybe they listen to you more when it comes to children, I don't know.

well when i was in the hospital 5 weeks ago to have my daughter i had the worst experience in labour and delivery. first when i got upstairs to labbour and delivery noone was around. we waited there for a few minutes before anyone came to help us and emergency called up there to tell them we were on our way up. then they put me in my room and checked me and all that good stuff. i was already 5cms dilated and wanted the epidural but there was noone around to give it to me which i understand that there is only certain doctors that do that and they were probably busy but the nurse said she would give me somehting else so i said ok. it took her awhile to come back, meanwhile im in really bad pain. so finally she came back. then noone was around again for awhile. when the nurse came back she gave me the birthing ball to use. she put it in the room and said here you go just bounce away, so i was like ok. i started bouncing then was falling asleep because of the drugs. my mom had to come and sit behind me so i wouldnt fall.
so about 2 hours later the nurse comes back after i sent my husband out to find her because i knew something was going on. so they checked me again and there was the baby ready to come out. you think they would have been in before that.
so my baby was born. then i was told to have my shower and stuff then i could go down to the ward within an hour. so the nurse left me there by myself. luckily my sister came along to help me shower. i was really lightheaded and didnt feel comfortable to shower by myself. so after the shower i went back to my bed. mom was out tehre and she had to clean my bed because again there was no nurse around. there was the babys cord blood laying around for hours noone came in to clean that up. and i ended up waiting about 4 hours before i went down to the ward.
i understand they get busy sometimes but at least they could inform you that they are busy and may be a little slow gettign things done:(

I think it is different circumstances for different people. Now when it comes to my youngest daughter, she has severe asthma, and always gets seen right away. Can't complain there. Myself on the hand, I hate going to the emergency room. Last time I was there, I had an absess on my backside, and I had had it for nearly a month before I couldn't sit anymore so I went up, went to traige and than sat there for 17 hours. I wanted to leave so many times but my wife made me stay, good thing because it was toxic and could have killed me. I was in the hospital for over a week. They didn't see it as a priority. I guess that unless you can physically see your ailment when you go to the outdoor, maybe you should jab yourself with a fork or somethings before you go, so you are bleeding all over their floor, than they might look at you.

My son at the time was not even a year old and was in a car accident and was at the hospital waiting in the waiting room for 12 hours before someone even seen him , i have never been happy with the hospital here ... it seems like half the time they hire people off the streets .. its pretty bad when you know more then the nurse does about something when you bring your child in there

I just wanted to make myself clear. I love the people at the hospital. They have been so kind and helped me threw so much. I have had to spend weeks at the hospital and one thing that I can completely complain about is the food. I still have yet to eat anything other than apple juice and toast. The nurses are great and they have been so good to me I just get frustrated with some doctors when they dont listen to you. Nobody knows your body better than you.

It's not the hospital thats the problem it's NB health care system! Our NB government fails when it comes to health care, they don't hire enough health care professionals and the wages aren't compatable with our provinces so then all our specialists move away. That might not be a problem for a healthy person but if your ill and you have to go to another province because your province is to cheap to hire a specialist than that is a big problem.

I completely agree. I havent yet had to go to another province but I agree with the fact that its not the hospital. I just wish that there was something we could do to get the doctors and nurses better wages so that they would stay here.

The Health Care System has been "strained" for many years. Unfortunately, people need to take some responsibility for where we are today. I realize that there are issues with getting a family doctor and that also adds to the problem. However, keep in mind that the emergency room is just that, it is there for emergencies. If you have an issue don't sit on it for a month until you can't tolerate it and then go to the emergency room in hopes for prompt attention. Take responsibility for your health and immediately book an appointment with your family doc, or go to one of the clinics or the UCC at St Joes. This takes the overwhelming pressure off the emergency room waiting rooms and would aid in allowing people with sudden onset emergencies prompt attention. We need to be part of the solution and not the problem. Lets use the resources made available to us and all will benefit.

Its true, we have to stop abusing the ER. I go see my specialist at least every 3 months and in the mean while Im suppose to go to the ER if I have a fever or severe pain. At least now we have the after hours clinic. Its sometimes hard to get into my family doctor but I would much rather go the after hours than go to the ER. They are always so busy.

You all have very valid points...the issue lies with understaffing in all areas of the hospital. Being a Nurse I have experienced it first hand...the NB Government has to make changes quickly.
The Nurses who once entered the profession "to care for others" are now burnt out from constant overload. The Nurse/Patient ratio is no longer realsitic and it is taking a great toll on the abilities of the staff to deliver safe, timely and quality care. I am sure that it is every Nurses desire to help those in need and to avoid some of these situations that have been mentioned....however we are stretched so thin that you get caught up helping a patient and someone else is left unattended.
I was always on the floor at least an hour after my shift ended to get my work completed (in order to give "proper" care). I love my profession and offering my help to others, however I could no longer work under these conditions at the hospital and now work elsewhere in Nursing.

To help with the overloaded situation, people with minor issues can go to St Joseph's or the after hours clinics...which are wonderful - You get an appointment that day and the wait time is very little. This will take some of the burden off of the Regional Hospital who can then see to more urgent problems.

Hopefully the Government will realize soon that drastic changes have to be made to our health care system.
