This is an odd problem and I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong.......

Harware: 3 gig processor, 1 gig ram, ati all-in wonder 256 meg agp video

Software xp pro, media player 11

Setup monitor cable 1 connected to monitor
monitor cable 2 unused
composite connected to video 3 on tv

Now when I go to the tv I see anything displayed on the monitor menus, icons etc everything works fine, If I play a dvd on the dvd with power dvd it plays fine (at least most of the time)

However if I say load media player, load up an avi file media player shows, it displays all the controls and the file plays fine on the monitor but in the video window in media player all I see is a black screen on the tv.

Any ideas ?

I have tried everything I can think of with no luck, including upgrading to the latest versions of the drivers, catalyst etc

Thanks
Bill

Greetings Bill,

Have you tried only having the TV hooked up? Also, in the catalyst control panel, try selecting the TV as the primary output.

It seems that DirectDraw is likely being confused on where to send the output.

Also, ensure you are running Direct X 9.0c

simply start -> run -> dxdiag

The version number will be at the bottom.

Good Luck!

Normally you need to enable theater mode to view movies on a TV.

Also see what is your primary display. Ati sometimes does not show video on both the displays
