Parking in the South/Central Peninsula to be discussed at public forum

The Saint John Parking Commission is hosting a public discussion about the current parking system in the South/Central Peninsula on Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00pm in the Church of St. Andrew and St. David at 164 Germain Street. The Commission made changes to parking in the South/Central Peninsula five years ago as the result of recommendations from a commissioned study of on-street parking in the area.

“The Saint John Parking Commission has been directed by Common Council to meet with the public to determine whether a review of the current system is required, and if so, the scope of the review,” said Councillor Chris Titus, Chair of the Saint John Parking Commission. “Although the current system is a vast improvement of what existed five years ago, there is always room for improvement and we want to hear thoughts and ideas from the public to help us determine whether changes need to be made.”

Along with members of the Saint John Parking Commission and City of Saint John Staff, Transportation Planners from DS Lea and Associates will be in attendance to provide technical information. Dave Hardy of Hardy Stevenson and Associates Ltd. will facilitate the meeting. Both firms were involved in the original commissioned study.

Information pamphlets will be delivered door-to-door to residents of the South/Central Peninsula this week by members of the Saint John Boys and Girls Club.

The meeting will begin with a formal presentation by the consultants and staff of the City of Saint John, followed by a community discussion.

The Saint John Parking Commission provides both long-term and short-term parking in uptown Saint John and ensures that future parking plans are adequate to meet the current as well as future needs of the City. They maintain efficient operation of both on-street and off-street parking facilities for the fulfillment of public needs in relation to parking.
