City of Saint John Snow Control Operations – Thursday, February 26th

Full City of Saint John street crews worked on snow removal and drainage clearance on Wednesday February 25th, and snow was removed overnight as well. The focus was to widen streets back to the curbline; expose drainage basins; and clear snowbound sidewalks where accumulations were too great for sidewalk machines to handle. Sidewalk crews also worked all day to improve the usability of the sidewalk network and assistance was provided by Saint John Water in clearing drainage basins in low lying areas.

On Wednesday snow was removed and trucked away from all four districts in the City - West - Whipple Street, Harding Street, Lancaster Avenue and Catherwood interchange ramps; North - Cranston Avenue, Tilley Avenue; East - Spruce Street, Park Avenue ; South - blocks on Leinster, Princess, Mecklenburg, Charlotte, Coburg, Germain, Union. Snow was also free blown back to widen the following streets - Ragged Point Road, Boars Head Road, University Avenue, Somerset Street, Magazine Street, Paradise Row, Hickey Road, Heatherway, Grandview Avenue and Champlain Drive.

Today’s focus for street crews was again on removal of snow and clearing drainage basins. Operations scheduled included the remainder of Cranston Avenue, Visart Street, Park Avenue East, Simms Corner and Winslow Street. Drainage basins were opened in Fundy Heights, Greendale, Fairville Boulevard, Manawagonish Road, Ready Street, Bleury Street, Catherwood Street, Dever Road, McAllister Drive, Consumers Drive, Retail Drive and Champlain Heights. In addition, two cold mix asphalt patch crews were deployed to repair streets.

Snow removal operations will resume in the South/Central Peninsula this evening at 10:00pm and include the Viaduct, Haymarket Overpass, Courtenay Causeway, and streets in the Central Business District and the South End. The focus for sidewalks today and tomorrow is in the South/Central Peninsula and North.

Similar operations are scheduled again for Friday.
