Snow Control Operations Throughout Saint John - Monday, February 23rd

Issued by the Communications Department, City of Saint John on behalf of Paul Groody, Commissioner,
Municipal Operations and Engineering

As everyone is well aware, the region has been hit by another heavy snowfall. The snow continues and is expected to turn to rain a bit later this morning; and then back to snow this afternoon.

A full complement of City Works crews has been out since 3:00 am this morning, and will continue to work throughout the day and into the evening and night hours. The public are urged to stay off the roads if at all possible. Plows are working all routes, but it will take time to get through to all streets. In fact, given the ongoing snowfall, several passes will be required across the entire network of streets. Clean-up is expected to take a number of days, including considerably more snow to be removed (blown and/or trucked away).

We ask that citizens get their vehicles off the streets if at all possible and not block sidewalks with snow or parked vehicles.

Crews will proceed in accordance with the snow plan, and we ask for the public's patience as we work to clean up nature's latest storm.

The public's assistance is requested. What can you do?
1. Be patient and be careful.
2. Do not block sidewalks with snow from your property
3. Do not park vehicles on or across sidewalks; vehicles so placed will be towed away.
4. Get your vehicles off the street; adequate service cannot otherwise be provided.
5. Clear ice and snow from catch basins and the fire hydrants in your neighbourhood.
6. Work with our crews; they are out there serving you.
7. Residents of South Peninsula – call 658 4040 or listen to the radio for notification of snow bans.
8. Alternate side parking - please adhere to the guidelines.

The City of Saint John thanks you for your cooperation and assistance.
