City of Saint John Snow Control Operations – Wednesday, February 11th

(Saint John) Saint John Works crews are continuing to remove snow and cut ice from City streets and to open snow covered sidewalks and drainage basins. With anticipated moderating temperatures today into Thursday additional road graders have been hired and crews will be focused on ice cutting and removal from curb lines and heavily iced streets on both day and nightshifts.

Work by sidewalk crews will be focused in the west side of the City for the next couple of days. Removal of snow is also being coordinated to open sidewalks that have not been accessible by smaller sidewalk machines. Free blowing snow with large snow blowers to the back of the right of way was conducted on streets in Millidgeville and Forest Hills and on Heatherway Monday and Tuesday, and will continue today and Thursday in Portland Place and Cedar Point Estates, Lower Forest Hills and Grandview Avenue. Snow removal and ice cutting will also continue in the Central Business District on nightshift and on Retail Drive and several Millidgeville, North End, and West Side streets during dayshift.

Tuesday night nightshift took 139 loads of snow off of the following streets:
• Chipman Hill, Coburg Street, Dorchester Street and Wellington Row between Carleton Street and Union Street
• Carleton Street
• Golding Street
• Cliff Street
• Peters Street
• Princess Street on one side from Charlotte Street to Crown Street,
• Crown Street on both sides Haymarket to Union Street.

Ice was cut from streets in Monte Cristo Park and Greendale subdivision Tuesday using road graders and will continue over the next few days in many other areas; e.g. Westgate Park, Colpitts Avenue, Ocean Westway, King William Road, Rockwood Court area, Fairville Plateau, Millidgeville area, Cedar Point Estates, among others.

Sidewalk crews will continue to spread sand for traction on sidewalks that remain covered in a layer of snow and ice, and as repeat applications are necessary due to moderating temperatures and melting/refreezing.

Citizens are asked for patience and to exercise caution when traveling on foot and motorists and parents are warned to be cognizant of heavy equipment involved with ice cutting and snow removal operations as they are carried out over coming days.
