City of Saint John Sidewalk and Snow Removal Operations – Monday, February 9th

(Saint John) The warmer weather yesterday with rain showers, followed by temperatures that quickly fell well below the freezing mark has caused many sidewalks to become very slippery. The City responded by beginning the application of treated sand to sidewalks at 3:00am this morning ahead of the school day and the morning commute.

Removal of snow from sidewalks is also resuming today as the sanding operation ends. Although sidewalk clearing equipment has been spread throughout all parts of the City, concentration has been given to zones. Generally, the South, North and East parts of the City have been cleared, except for sidewalks requiring the support of heavy snow removal equipment. Concentration is now moving to sidewalks on the West side.

Pedestrians are asked again for patience as we continue to rise to these ever challenging weather conditions. They are also asked to be very careful as they navigate on City sidewalks, particularly on those that have not yet received the visible treated sand.
