Early morning tanker truck incident contained

Members of the City of Saint John Fire Department, representatives from Saint John Water, the New Brunswick Department of the Environment and Irving Oil have contained an incident involving an Irving Oil tanker truck accident on Loch Lomond Road early this morning

The tanker that overturned contained over 47,000 litres of product and a small fire that developed was quickly extinguished when fire crews arrived. Crews are working to mitigate any possible damages from product leaks, and there have been no major leaks into the water system. The incident is now stable.

Local media were contacted directly early this morning to assist officials with communicating information about the incident to citizens. Area residents can be assured that it was determined by officials very early on in the incident that there would be no need for an evacuation of the area.

The incident did affect some power lines and the power grid in that area has been shut down. Power is slowly being restored to the Silver Falls, Consumers Drive and Loch Lomond area.

Citizens and motorists are being asked to avoid Loch Lomond road, and will be redirected to make use of alternate routes if they approach the area.

We will update you with further information as it becomes available.
