Reminder – Snow Parking Bans and Snow Tips for winter 2008-2009

Winter and snow are fast approaching. The City of Saint John Works Department, in conjunction with the Saint John Parking Commission, offers you the following information:

• After a snow storm, a temporary overnight parking ban can be declared for on-street parking in the South/Central Peninsula from 11 pm to 7 am. A ban enables snow plow crews to clear streets on both sides to keep them passable.

• All vehicles remaining on-street once the snow ban is in effect WILL BE TOWED at the owner's risk and expense.

• Designated Parking Commission parking lots will be cleared for use during a ban beginning at 6pm. Vehicles must be removed from those parking lots by 7am Monday through Friday and by noon on weekends. Vehicles remaining in the lots after these times may be towed at the owner's risk and expense.

Designated Parking Commission parking ban lots can be found at:
• Corner of Princess and Charlotte (changed from corner of Duke and Charlotte)
• King Street East
• Peters Street
• Carmarthen Street/Vineyard Church
• Mecklenburg Street at Wentworth Street (changed from western half of lot at Carmarthen Street/Vineyard Church)

To find out whether a temporary overnight parking ban has been declared, call the Snow Parking Ban Recorded Information Line after 4 pm at 658-4040. You can also check the City of Saint John website at www.saintjohn.ca (http://www.saintjohn.ca/) for updates or to register for email notifications.

Other snow tips
• Park off the street during a snowstorm to allow the plow to clear your street.
• Don't push snow from a driveway or parking lot onto City streets or sidewalks.
• Don't park in zones, which have been posted "No Parking - Street Clearing."
• Don't "abandon" your vehicle on a street.
• Keep the catch basin adjacent to your property free from ice and snow to help prevent flooding.
• When you shovel your driveway, place the snow on the "downstream" side so your driveway won't be filled in.
• Place garbage bags/compost carts near the entrance to your driveway for easy accessibility and to ensure it gets picked up.
