Wondering if anyone has any info. on orphanages in Saint John back in the late 1929's-1938, Catholic and Protestant. Looking for names of orphanages. Thanks.:D

for Catholic... try the local SJ Catholic Diocese. If you were looking for an earlier time period, say 1910, I would recommend searching through the 1911 Census... it will indicate "boarder" or "orphan".

Saint Patrick's Orphanage was located on Loch Lomond Road behind Saint Joachims church. The foundations of the old orphanage and rectory can still be seen on the hillside. The Prostestant Orphans Home was located on Manawagonish Road at purdy's corner and is now a seniors complex. hope this helps

1855-rented a house on Pond Street (which is Station Street now)

April 12, 1855-Act of Incorporation
Saint John Protestant Orphans Asylum

1881-moved into a newly constructed building on Britain Street.

1919-(expansion) Martello Hotel converted and was known as the West Side Building.

1921-(expansion) rented a Building on Wright Street.

1922-name change to New Brunswick Protestant Orphans Home.

1924-new location opened on Manawagonish Road.

sometime before 1935 there was also a Protestant Orphanage on Garden Street, near the corner of Charles. The buildign was demolished for the Irving Garden St. car wash.
