Currently watching the w5 show on autism...and am amazed, and dismayed.
These people who have autism, are locked away in their own bodies...some can break through to communicate, but need the assistance of specialized training/resources..
Why can't they get it????

They can't get the assistance due to the cost. Sadly it boils down to money.

as far as i know, the children with autism only get therapy till age 6.after that the resources are done.you have to pay for your own occupational and speach therapy.back in march of 2007 a bill called c -304 was voted down.Ottawa 's ongoing refusal to provide autism health care is wrong. the purpose of the National stratgery for the treatment of autism act.to provide services that are medically necessary or required under this act include, applied behavioural analysis (ABA) and intensive behavioural intervention (IBI).for persons suffering from autism spectrum disorder. No province in canada offers IBI or ABA under medicare.some provinces offer half-baked programs under their department of social services as if autism was merely a social problem rather than a medical one.i found this by looking up (facing autism in new brunswick).

Children diagnosed autism are being funded for 20 hours a week of therapy at a government recognized clinic. There is usually 1 clinic per city. It is much better then it used to be, the goverment would give you the money to pay the individual professionals, and it was your responsiblity to find them and get your child there and back. Now, they are all under one roof, and they all work together to come up with a program that will benefit the child the most. The studies that were performed showed that to give a child the best chance possible, they required 30 hours a week of therapy, however, the government only funds 20.
