Saint John, NB –

The City of Saint John experienced some flooding and road washouts in the wake of last night’s rainstorm. Shayne Galbraith said “the Marsh Creek system on the East side flooded in several locations and a number of streets have been closed as a result of water covering them.” Among the streets closed are Simpson Drive, Glen Road, Brown Street, Todd Street and Ashburn Road between Foster Thurston Drive and Drury Cove Road. Rothesay Avenue has also been closed to through traffic because of localized flooding near Crosby’s Molasses. The curb traffic lanes at several other locations on Rothesay Avenue have also been closed because of water lying in them and a lane of Kennebecasis Drive near Crown Hill Road has been closed because of a washout.

Galbraith said that City crews were out last night dealing with other flooding locations in west and north areas of the City and are still busy with flooding affecting Flemming Court and McLaren Boulevard in the City’s North End. Streets will be opened as the water recedes although it is expected that some areas of the Glen Falls will remain closed to traffic until sometime tomorrow.

The public is requested to avoid traveling in these areas to reduce traffic congestion and minimize any property damage as a result of waves created by vehicles.
