Dear Saint John Shopper

So you stood in a Russian bread line to get yourself a Wii or a Guitar Hero or something else that was hard to find for Xmas, Then instead of using it you decide(or maybe you decided before you bought it) to sell it for 2 or 3 times what its worth. Now some peple got the outrageus price they wanted for it but looking on here and a few more other places a lot more didn't....hmmmm and now you can't even sell it for enough to break even, maybe you should of took that lower offer just before Xmas you would of made a few bucks but no you decided to wait and convinced yourself that someone out there was gonna give you the $200 for the Guitar Hero or the $500 for your Wii. You try to bring it back to the store but you have no receipt, over 30 day and or it's been opened.....now you're stuck with something you really didn't want in the first place and your still tring to sell at an outrageus price because you think some one will buy it instead of waiting 2 or 3 weeks when the stores will have plenty!!!!!! Way to go !!!!!!!!!!!

Now thats a story LOL but seriously the question is was it smart to do that and take the risk that you might be stuck with something after Xmas or was it just plain greddy to do something like that and try to profit. Remember a lot of people just can't afford those prices and I'm sure somewhere a child never got that one gift they wanted cause someone bougt the last one and is reselling it again at an inflated cost!!!

This is just for fun and to see what everyone thinks!!!!!!

I would never in a million years pay an inflated price for a game system. I think my hubby is nuts for buying an x box 360 period.

I think it's hilarious that people do that. It makes me smile when they end up getting stuck with it. And it's "Greedy" "Greddy" makes performace car parts. ;)

I was watching on much music (I think), few weeks before christmas a kid got caught by his father for smoking some stuff (if you know what I mean) he took away his game and it was a $90 game sold it on ebay for $9000. If you can make that much I say go ahead and do it. Why not easy way to make a buck. :)

^^ I agree.

I would never pay 2x or higher for an item. I would wait for a better price and if I didn't get it, Oh well!

Sorry to hijack, just wanted to tell you that I was amazed how people acted this year over certain games *cough cough guitar hero 3*. I was in a certain store a couple days after xmas and I saw the most amazing thing. A woman, I would say must have been in her 40-50's throwing a hissy fit because they were sold out and they still had not come in. The clerk was very nice to her and said ma'am we have your name in the book, and we told you that we do not expect ANY in until mid Jan. You can call us back then and see if it is in. Well this woman threw a HISSY fit to end all fits. Mind you the store was crowded, standing room only, and there were many kids in the store. This woman apparently didn't like the "attitude" or the answer (I thought the man was quite pleasent considering how demanding and rude this woman was) so she THREW something at the back wall, knocking everything off, and cussing and screaming at the top of her lungs. The manager came out and told her to leave the store immediatly or she would be escorted out by the police and she was not welcome back in the store. Well with that she threw another fit, cussing and screaming and pushing past people. Well I had enough of this garbage and I walked right up to her and said excuse me ma'am, but would you like me to take you to the potty and I can wash your mouth out with soap? I do not appreciate that kind of language around my babies. She "politely" told me to mind my own f***ing business and walked away.
It is people that act like that that ruin the holidays and people's thoughts on gift giving and buying. kwim? I am sure that woman probably was one of the ones that just wanted to sell it for 5X it's worth before it came back in stock.
There are very few things that I am willing to over pay on. Unless it is something life or death, or desperatly needed in our home, I just wait until they come back instock again. What's the big deal? Why pay 500.00 for a game system that in less than a month you will be able to get it for HALF that????? People are nuts!

To me, paying that much money for a gift equals desperation, and in turn it means that you are either spoiling your child or have some sort of guilt complex about not having spent enough time with them or listened to them etc. As a child the gifts I appreciated the most were the ones with thought, not cost. One of the best gifts I ever got was a cheap-junk musical ornament with a plastic brass coloured base and a glass cat on top, and coloured lights flash inside it. At the time I collected brass candlesticks and Austrian crystal, and my father saw it and figured it had brass [well just the colour anyway], glass [well that's like crystal right?], and that I liked cats and music so he got it for me. I still have it, although the music box has stopped playing. That 9.95 piece of kitsch means more to me than the hundreds of dollars in gift certificates I ever got, the $200 place settings of my china, rings, luggage etc. It's on my short list of items to grab in a fire, because he picked it out himself and gave some thought to it.

I think if anything it provides a good example for your children on how not to act.

Its rather unfortunate that people do not realize that if you use manners, you will get further in life. I mean, can it not hurt for a person to be polite? I see so much of that crap, and its like, well if you didn't scream and yell and swear at them, you would likely get better service.

I hear you, but sometimes being polite just doesn't work. I am not saying always, and certainly it doesn't apply in this situation, but I am just saying sometimes. I always try to be polite, until someone tries to talk down to me or they try to give me the runaround.

Same here!

Although i would never personally degrade an individual person.. or swear at them.

Most times the problem lies with a corporation or whomever.. most times.. it is not the person you are talking to directly. I deal with this everyday in customer service.

I am more of an Indirect B*t*h when someone is rude to me :)

A product is only worth what someone will pay. This market these days has learned that people will pay ANYTHING for many products. We have accepted a price of $1.069/L for regular gasoline when in 1999 it was only 54c/L. 600 ml Coke used to be a 500 ml and cost 89c, now it's generally $2.03. This sort of inflation is insane, considering salaries have not all gone up.

We live in a world where salaries are not equal pay for education and/or experience or the type of work. Same work in NB for 10/hr can pay upwards of 30$/hr. Pretty crazy. I just heard of a guy going to work in some sort of mine for 50$/hr with no experience or education.

Anyhow, if someone can get 3x the price of something because someone will pay it, then let them. Just don't pay their price if you don't want to and/or can't afford it.

Greedy or Smart? Both....it is all about supply and demand...if someone will pay the price...then someone will sell a good or service at insane prices.

In another thread people were talking about pay day advances (Money Mart or Cash Mart) - isn't it along the same lines....someone is willing to pay 30% interest because they need/want it.

It all boils down to the same thing....if you can't or won't purchase an item because of the high price and if someone else wants to pay an inflated/insane price...well as been said in other threads...it's their money....they can do with it what they want.
