Hey Saint John, just a quick question we live across the road from the kennebecasis river and now that it's duck season there are people in the marsh part with their blinds facing the house and have been shooting all day toward the house. We have a couple dogs and live on the mountain so if anyone shoots upwards is shooting toward our house. Here's the question how far away should they be from any home or public roadway, as the roads between the house and river and is heavily traveled??? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated cause I dont think it's too safe. :|

Thanks for reading and so much for a quick question...lol

Not likely.. I'd be on the phone,,after the First SHOT..Game warden, police or someone..
They DO have guidelines to follow..especially when it comes to distance from houses.. and DUH I'm sure they can see your house If you can pick out their blinds, lol
Good Luck.. maybe fire off fireworks or some flares or something..lol

Pretty shur it`s 300yds for shot gun and bow. 500yds for rifle. Call the DNR. They will come measure to keep them legal. Shot gun shot rarly goes more than 100 to 150yds. But the noise can be bothersome.

Good luck with that.

its 200 meters from a house/dwelling with a shotgun doesn't matter if they are shooting right at your house as long as they are the 200 meters from the house

how far does a shotgun travel??? that sounds ridiculous :( I'm sorry Vix, I'd be terrified, but I'm so paranoid to begin with.

It depends on what type of rifle they are using, a 12 guage, 20 gauge and a .410 cal. will shoot about 800 yards.

Duck hunters use shotguns. The pellets that a shotgun send out are very small, and they don't travel very far. The pellets lose velocity very quickly as well, they don't have enough velocity to kill a duck at more than about 60 yards. Overall the pellets won't travel more than about 200 yards, and at that distance it's pretty much about as lethal as freezing rain. You need to be 200 yards away from buildings to discharge a shotgun.
