:( And I was just starting to get used to Global Warming.

Someone was out in shorts today and last week I saw several girls in sandals!

I guess it has to start sometime. Might as well get it over with. lol

I love snow storms, I guess the feeling of school getting cancelled because of them never left me. But I don't care to see the stuff stay around. Keeps the air too cold.

I also seen 2 people out bikes two, the normal peddle type. It was nice out for sure!

no snow sitting in the woods slowly melting into the spring causes the ground to dry up quicker and the forest fire season starts earlier, lasts longer, and has the potential to be worse.

I hate snow, and I would rather see snow than rain right now. This 'winter' just seems wrong.

not sure if this is considered a "winter" storm:
A DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST WILL TRACK ACROSS NORTHERN NEW BRUNSWICK TONIGHT. SNOW AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM HAS ALREADY SPREAD ACROSS THE PROVINCE. THE SNOW WILL CHANGE TO A PERIOD OF ICE PELLETS WITH A RISK OF FREEZING RAIN BEFORE CHANGING TO RAIN. OVER SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE PROVINCE 10 TO 15 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FUNDY COAST WILL SHOULD SEE ABOUT 5 CENTIMETRES. THE CHANGEOVER WILL BE FOLLOWED BY 10 TO 20 MILLEMETRES OF RAIN EXCEPT ONCE AGAIN FOR THE FUNDY COAST WHERE RAINFALL AMOUNTS UP TO 30 MILLEMETRES ARE LIKELY HENCE THE RAINFALL WARNING IS ISSUED FOR THAT AREA. OVER NORTHERN AREAS 15 TO 20 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED WHICH WILL THEN BE FOLLOWED BY 5 MILLIMETRES OF RAIN.

My friend's daycare is closing at 1:30 due to freezing rain. Is it really that bad? Are the malls closed? Are the buses running? Is it supposed to warm up and turn to rain? We are just wondering if we should be thinking about picking our kids up early too.
Thanks

The schools are closed from what I've been told. Not sure how bad it is on the roads but right now here, it's only raining. Our daycare hasn't called yet about closing early. Wait and see how it goes I guess.

i don't think it's freezing rain? Looks like normal rain to me. With freezing..it leaves a glaze over everything.

Not sure about the roads in town but out in country(towards Hampton,Upham areas) the roads are quite slippery in places and a lot of slush on them right now.

not much of a storm after all....oh well maybe next week...and from what i gathered the buses coming off the road are a rare occurance for sure....itll take a lot more than a little rain

No snow storm AHHH I want to see snow already lol At this moment in town it looks like normal rain but temps going up and down can cause some slippy driving..the driving was bad in places earlier..just a little colder and could be very dangerous.

I must say, I don't understand what criteria they use to cancel school. But I've seen it almost blizzarding, and school goes on. And today we got some freezing rain, and school was called off. But I can't complain, gives me an extra day to work on things and catch up on sleep. :)

they actually have snow days worked into thier school schedule, they haven't used any, so they took one...

jdcb......[moderated, watch your language] They cancelled school because of the forcasted freezing rain and decided to err on the side of caution in having the busses on the road. Nothing more, nothing less.

I agree they had it forcasted a lot worse then it really was. I don't know where you got that information from(jdcb) but it's not true.

Mandi

I have seen it actually end up being worse than this forecast was without a school cancelation, not even at lunch did they cancel. that was only 4 or 5 years ago. I can think of one day in particular... it was crazy bad out.

I happen to get my info from the school board. Believe what you will, I'll take it from the horse's mouth... They plan for so many snow days to happen a year. That's why the first storm or two that is forcasted to have any potential, is closed...

babydoll101
01-08-2007, 09:15 PM
Yes but they don't just close school because they haven't used one of those days.

they're a bit more ready too if it's getting a few weeks into January and there is a storm coming.

But anyway, I'm not going to enter into any debates right now, I plan on reading my book at work tonight...
