Garden Street Fire

I drove past 13 Garden Street this afternoon and noticed it was pretty well destroyed by fire. I used to live there some years ago and was wondering what happened? I've been out of town, so I never heard. Can someone fill me in?

from what the papers said, there was an explosion, then the whole thing burst into flames. it appeared to start in the basement.
