I have an MSI mobo model MS-7061 and 2 sticks of Kingston Brand performance RAM each 512MB. I just recently noticed that despite having 2 512 sticks of RAM my systems total memory is only 512. I have done a few things to figure out if the issue is bad RAM or bad slots on my mobo.
Each time I've taken 1 of the sticks out its says that I have a total of 256MB of RAM regardless of which slot i put it in. Both sticks only individually registers as 256MB of RAM and only when I put them in both will it register as 512MB of RAM. I have looked at the sticker on both sticks and both in fact indicate that both sticks of RAM are 512MB each.
Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Chances are somone "stickered" them wrong. If they both read 256mb when you install them....most likely that is what they are. If it was just bad ram...you would get a different response all together.

u have a amdk7 board, which only takes pc2100 or pc2700 , if u are using pc3200 that could be your problem also, specs say it should takke 1gig each slot
