I got my kayak insured the other day but they said I need to put some sort of an identifying mark or tag. Seeing as it goes in the water, anything painted on staying put seems unlikely. Similarly, any etching, burning, or bolting anything on could potentially weaken the structural integrity. I thought of attaching to the seat but since it is easily removable, that seems unlikely to work either. How can I get a label or name of some sort on there, inside, that won't come off, rust, have the ink run from the water etc etc?

I know this sounds kinda silly, but what about dog tags? You could get whatever it is you need engraved on the plate, and then fasten it some place secure. You know what, the fireman that lives across the street kayaks a lot, I will ask him what he does - if he does do anything. I will let ya know as soon as I catch him home.

Had someone put vinyl lettering on the back-sticky, waterproof, should last as long as I plan to own the kayak.
