I think that the small "City Watch" section of the newspaper is a good idea but I wonder sometimes if they are just desparate to find something wrong with the city. I mean, come on, receiving a call about the fact that the Harbour Bridge is/was two different colours. Was that caller blind to the fact that the staging was still up and that they were still working at painting the rest of it??? Or today's, for example...pigeon droppings on the Band Stand in King's Square? That would be a full time job for someone to keep that clean.
Just my opinion, but I wish our newspaper would spend more time proof reading articles then trying to find things wrong with the city. For example, the article in the paper 2 weeks ago said that the poor man who had to wait to have surgery was said to need "bairn surgery" not brain surgery.

My thoughts have been, why does it always have to be negative things that this paper writes about? Haven't seen anything positive in the "City Watch" section.
I agree that the newspaper should spend more time proof reading, every night as I read the paper I see tons of spelling mistakes. What is up with that? In this day and age, there is spell check!!!!

maybe we can write into the "city watch" section with postitive things we've seen around the city, maybe they will take the hint

I also find it to be negative at times, but I also find they are trying to make those accountable for things or situations that need to be corrected or updated around the city. I think it is a great idea to have this in the paper.

I do agree that it's a good idea but sometimes they are really picky. Alot of the things that people are complaining about they have neglected to call City Staff to let them know. Unfortunately, the City doesn't have enough workers to go around looking for things to fix!

I agree with The_Dave.....although negativity is looming around everycorner of the newspaper and media...i think this particular section works!! They have been doing it in Bigger cities like Toronto and Calgary for years. It holds people accountable for their actions. Maybe the one about the harbor bridge was silly but the one about the house on Main street which is 5 doors down was GREAT and has since been fixed. A sign has now been fixed and a telephone poll!!!!!!!!!!!!! I understand where your coming from but we all have to realize that some people see saint john as a dirty place. Why not change that!!!
