Does anyone else find these prices very high - I believe it just went up another dollar. It's not really about if you have the money or not - it just seems abit high - does anyone else think so?

Yepp it's expensive, but I don't think it's more than other places, or anything, that's just hte going rate.
That would be why we don't go to the movies ..........

No I would agree - it's not that SJ has higher prices than anywhere else - all pretty much the same - but it is rather pricey for a movie. :)

some cities have loonie theatres. Yeah the movies are a little older but still. I find the prices totally crazy. I can rarely afford to take my daughter to them. Thank goodness for family that gives her movie money cards at Christmas time!

Seems odd to charge so much for movies in a time that you can usually download and watch the movie before it hits the theatre. Of course that might be why the prices are so high.

Hehe I'll give you some inside info.
Movie theatres don't really make that much from movies at the door for the first few weeks or sometimes even longer the movie runs.
For example on the first week the movie runs..they may get to keep....say 10% of the ticket sales. 2nd -3rd week...12-15%, 4th week 25% etc etc as the weeks go by they get to keep more of what they sell in ticket sales.

However....lets talk about popcorn etc sales. 10yrs ago a 50lb bag of popcorn seed.... cost about $35. It was expected that they should get a return of about $10-$12 per pound of seed, that works out to about $500-$600 per 50lb bag of seed used.
Popcorn is....and probably still is, where they make the greatest profit!

I find em way high! BUT, I wouldn't mind paying for the movie price if the dang food and drinks weren't so expensive. We took our daughter to see Shrek 3, by the time we left he pretty much spent $40 and all we got for treats was a kids combo thing with popcorn and a drink and an extra drink. This was through the week, on the "cheaper" nights. Pretty crazy. And then they blame us for not attending the movies as much because we are watching download copies and Canadian are supposed to be the worst for it...well if the darn movies or maybe I should say treats at the movies or both... weren't so expensive, you would prob see more people go to a movie , let's face every movie is better when watched at the theatre!! It is too costly to go on a regular basis, weel atleast when you have a family. It can cost a small fortune!

I hardly ever see the movies during the weekend but not because of the price. I just really hate the "couples". I tend to dislike couples even though I'm in one. I don't like how they take too long to decide things because neither wants to see pushy among other things. These couples on the weekends are usually in the beginnings of a relationship so they're even more annoying in those ways.

That said, I am not bothered by the price of admission or the price of concessions. $10 to sit in a very comfortable theatre with state of the art picture and sound is a good deal for me. $10 split by 2 for concessions (large popcorn and pop) is only $5 for a pretty hefty snack. I don't see what the big deal is.

This post made me realize just how long it has been since I went to see a movie. The last time I went it was $7.50 for one adult admission. Wow!

I have not been to the movie theatres in years. I will not step foot in them because of the prices. It is ridiculous along with the price of the treats. I have the movie channels from Rogers and I just wait till the movies come on them. This may mean waiting a few months but for $27 a month, you cannot go wrong. It also allows me to see other movies that I might have not been otherwise interested in also. There are at the very least 15 to 20 new movies released on the movie channels each month. Empire or any other movie theatre will never see my money.

Are you a mute? Is that why you couldn't ask for your change?

Hey if you don't want to pay the price of the movie than wait for it to be released and rent it

The_Dave

For the price of renting at least 4 - 5 movies a month, you could get the movie channels from Rogers and watch 100's.

mute? well people normally don't ask for their change back.. they mute therself until sombody tried to ripp them off! I seen her close the tilt then I said could I have my change back.. if I were to hand you a $20 bill on a $8.75 ticket.. would you expect to keep my change?

People make mistakes.

I am ticked off by the wait in line for concessions, since they started accepting debit and credit cards the wait time is obscene. I used to feel as if it was part of the whole movie experience, de rigeur -that no movie was complete without it. Now I know that is not true, I got fed up last night and won't be spending a cent on concessions. I love movies, I prefer to see them in the theatre, it's a change from parked on my own lumpy couch being pestered by my cat and disturbed by neighbours slamming doors and traffic screeching by.

I also enjoy the movie experience more than watching at home; especially with movies that are definitely meant for the big screen. I love to sit in the back row of the front section. Nothing in between me and the screen and no one behind me.

i find the prices to be outrageous, but i guess you are paying for the experience of it all, but the condiments are WAYYYY over priced!

The_Dave

That is why I do not go, because of the 700 percent mark up on treats, not to mention the overpriced movie. I have the movie channels and for less than the price of one trip to the movies, I have movies all month, plus options to rent and to watch movies I missed at any time I want. All at my fingertips in the comfort of my own home.
