Anyone ever have Carpel Tunnel Syndrom?

I am pregnant and the doctor believes I probably had it before getting pregnant. It is 10 times worse right now. This condition is horrible. I was just wondering if there is anyone going through the same pain as I do. Sometimes I can't sleep at night, even driving the car is hard sometimes.

Does anyone else go through this?

I had the symptoms with all three prgnancies. You do not have to have carpal tunnel to have the symptoms so don't worry about surgery that you may not need. I've had the testing done twice. When you are pregnant, extra fluids, press on the nerves. Try using a brace and see if that relieves the symptoms. At it's worst, I was unable to use a pen. I also had to use a sling with my last two children because the strain of carrying them in my arms would worsen the symptoms and I would lose strength. I started making them because they were such a lifesaver for me. Use pillows and proper positioning when breastfeeding as well. Don't sleep on your arm and limit computer use.

I was giving a perscription from my doctor to get a brace. I was wondering if anyone else has one and if it works.

I used one on my right hand and it worked. Wearing it at night helps keep the hand in a proper position. Shop around for one you like. Mine is black and only has two velcroe straps. Some insurance companies may require the brace to have a metal splint in it. Try Guardian Pharmacy. They were the only store that carried the back brace I needed.

About how much did you pay? I called one place and they were almost $40. My left arm is the worse. I definitely need to get one right away.

$30-40 is about right. If you have insurance, you should get most of it back. I would try one hand first and see if it works.

I have to have them on both hands. I bought mine at Shoppers on crown street and I think I paid about 25-30.00 each (not quite sure exactly) mine are black and blue and have the metal bar in them with 3 velcro straps. It works wonders on my right hand, but my left one is worse than ever but that is because I am left handed and cannot do anything with it on so i always take it off... I know I didnt have health coverage so I had to pay it all myself, but it u have a precription for them then u don't pay tax on it I guess. BUT I would say that is has been worth it.. I can use my hands again!
p.s. mine started with my second pregnancy and after she was born they got worse FAST. Carrying around 2 kids all the time and doing a lot of heavy lifting didnt help. LOL

I had carpal tunnel really bad. I've had both hands operated on...my right hand just recently and it's still in a lot of pain. When I had my left hand done last year it made a huge difference. I used the brace on both hands and it definitely helped. I'm still wearing the right one sometimes. My hands/wrists are very weak now though. There is the alternative of having massage done to your hands and arms...it makes a huge difference!! And it feels really good too! Helps with circulation...you should definitely try it.

I had carpal tunnel about...ah...??? years ago and they tried physio, didn't work, just kept getting worse. My left hand was worse than my right, had it in both but they opted to operate on the right. The left one corrected itself and I have had NO problems since. That was done about 18 yrs ago. I imagine they have more options than surgery now-a-days but that was how mine turned out. And I had it done with a local antisthetic and stayed awake and actually I watched them do the surgery. It was really neat. Like I say I haven't had any problems since then.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I got a cheap brace and it helps a little bit. After my pregnancy if I still have the symptoms my doctor is going to refer me to a specialist. Hopefully they can do something. I am praying though that it is all over after the baby is born. I never realized just how many people would have it.

Homey: I was wondering where I could get these massages that you are talking about.
