Anybody been to the zoo lately? Are there new animals there? I haven't been there in years and recently talked to family who went to Magnetic Hill Zoo and they said they weren't impressed with the number of animals that were there...

we go at least once a year. The kids have fun, however, if you aren't impressed with magnetic hill zoo then you most certainly won't be impressed with cherry brook zoo!

I have not been to the zoo in two years and the Mocton zoo even longer. I have seen a commercial for the magnetic hill zoo and they have new attractions there I beleive. The cherry brook zoo has new reindeer, there is a sign posted out front when you drive by.

My suggestion to the zoo, is get this town involved in raising money not to keep the zoo open but to bring in new attractions. More people would be involved if they thought it was bringing something new and exciting! instead of keeping somethning old and boring around!

I dont like the idea of animals in cages, but my one little voice won't change anything and as long as they are well looked after...but they need to bring in new animals, and new interactive things. The magnetic hill zoo kills ours and no wonder they get no one visiting anymore really...it takes 20 minutes to walk through and your finished. BORING! and a waste of money. I wouldn't mind paying 20$ a head if the was actually more to look at and things to "get into" like a petting zoo in there or something.... They also need someone with a creative mind to make something great out of nothing and with little money!! Creativity people!! Creativity!

Im not to impressed with who ever runs the zoo to be quite honest! My daughter wanted to have her 7th b-day party at the zoo. I called in June or early July to book and has an employee tell me they weren't booking that early and September was a slow time of year and to call back two weeks before, which I did...
Only to be told they were booked well into October, and there was nothing they could do because business take priority over anything else because that is where they get their funding from...

Hahaa well lady... I hate to tell you this BUT your business funders aren't going to keep you going if you are p*&@ing off your "customers". Thanks to her, my daughter had a really crappy birthday at Burger King because everything else in town was booked solid by then! Thank you for that! and if you can't tell, that was SARCASM!

We were at the cherry brook zoo last week and the kids loved it as always.(mind you they are only 1 and 2 years old) However I found that the zoo this time was pretty empty, and dirty and looks like no one has done any mowing or tree trimming at all. I dont know why though.. We go at least 1-2 times a month... I know since the city pulled the funding on the zoo it has been harder and harder to cover their costs. We buy the year pass and its only 125.00 and u can go as much and often as u want to. We went to magnetic hill zoo last year and thought it was pretty good. Were going again this summer. I agree that our zoo should have a petting area or something, a little more interactive for the kids. The one thing that my kids really like is the vanished kingdom. We spend hrs in there. lol.. The cherry brook zoo is always looking for volunteers to help them out, maybe we could get some fund raising going from the isaintjohn members? Then they might be able to get some newer exhibits or whatever. Just an idea.

i used to love going to the zoo as a kid, but it has gone down hill. nobody wants to go and so much needs to be done to that zoo. It should be cleaned up, have grass growing in the cages, have a small pool for the tigers they love water. they should have a petting area and have a small animal like a goat or pig or something to wander around to great people. they have pig at rockwood lol. they should do a lot more to get kids to understand about wild animals. they should have a monkey or something that they can bring out and just walk around on a harness leash or something when there are kids and have them pet him. Even the ducks are fenced off, they should be aloud to rome and people should be aloud to feed them. Don't they have a play ground or something up there now?

I recently went to the public zoo in my hometown of Peterborough, Ontario and it puts our zoo to shame. Mind you it doesn't have exotic cats like ours does, but the exhibits are all clean and physcally and mentally stimulating for the animals. The pathways are all paved, none of this tripping over tree roots and strugglng with a childs stroller to get around.

All the animals appear to be happy and healthy looking; unlike ours and the gardens are beautiful. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to spend money to go to a zoo I want to se "Real" animals not a bunch of fake statues through the woods. LOL takes me back to the long lost days of Animaland.

They have a huge playground for the kids (even one for those that are physically disabled), a large picnic area next to the river, a 15 minute train ride across the river and back ($1/adult, kids free), and their latest addition a large splash park which is a big hit with the little ones.

All of which costs absolutely nothing to see!!! All monies for upkeep for the zoo is taken care of via taxes and donations.
