I went to Calais yesterday..thought I would do some cross border shoping as our dollar has hit almost 92 cents. But I was really disappointed at Mardens...as they were charging 14 cents on our dollar for exchange. Now Walmart on the other hand was only charging 10 cents on the dollar. This does not seem fair...that Mardens can charge 14 cents...it should be the same across the board.

Hi,
But when you stop and look at our side, very few stores give them the same exchange for their dollar.
Best suggestion, find a place that takes it at par, or buy some US funds when ours is high for later :)

There are places right here in Saint John that do not even give an exchange!

Some corner stores for example.

There is no law that says any store has to give an exchange. Most towns/City's have a chamber of commerce that sets a SUGGESTED fair exchange rate. But your under no obligation to follow it..
