We are still having troubles with our internet and now it seems that the ethernet lite goes out for abit when the computer is not being used so we are wondering if maybe the ethernet card is going bad.We are also wondering if the card is going bad would that keep making the internet connection be lost? Thanks for any help you have

When the light goes off did you check to see if your ethernet card was disabled or missing ? For win XP I believe you would find it in the connection's properties. Yes if the ethernet card was going bad that would make you loose your connection.
Not sure if this helps,
Vanessa

To check your Network card:

If you have an XP, do this:

Click on Start in the bottom left corner of your system tray-->

Click on Control panel in that menu that pops open-->

A menu of items will open that will contain icons in alphabetical order; from this menu click on System-->

A "System Properties" window will open with various 'tabs' located within. Click on the Hardware tab-->

Click on that long and skinny button called Device Manager-->

A "Device Manager" window will open with a list of various devices on your computer. These are also in alphabetical order-->

Click on that '+' symbol next to the option called "Network Adapters". This will expand that option to show you your network adaptor. If there's a '-' symbol beside that option then that means your menu is already expanded under Network Adapters--> Look for the adaptor that reads something like "SiS 900-Based Fast Ethernet Adapter". (You might have a different name to your own adapter, but the key are those last few words "...Fast Ethernet Adaptor".-->

When you've located this adapter, click on it only once to highlight it, then right-click and choose "Properties" from that drop down menu that opens up when you right-click-->

Your adapter properties window will open up that is specific to your network card. In the middle, within the "Device Status" box, it will tell you if your device is working properly or not.

I recommend you print this post off so you can navigate through all of these options and menus more efficiently without trying to read this thread and trouble-shooting at the same time.

Hope this helps.
