Rockwood Park group vows to fight development

The City of Saint John as some people may be aware are in the final step of selling a very large parcel of Rockwood Park on Sandy Point Road..this parcel of land is just on the east side of the Rockwood Park Golf Course..at 1617 Sandy Point Road..also known as "Harrigan Lake" The runoff from the parking lots of these apartment buildings will no doubt pollute this lake as it is currently being polluted by the City of Saint John's storm drains along this section of Sandy Point Road running off into at this very time..in violation of the Enviromental Act.

On December 20th at 7 PM at Council Chambers they will be giving final reading to this sale

We need All citizens that oppose this development of inappropriate development of our park to attend this very important meeting to show your opposistion to this sale and development
If this is not stopped now the sale of lots of Rockwood Park will continue and this jewel in our city will never be the same as we know it..
Rockwood Park was never meant to be for sale to developers..it was meant for the pleasure and enjoyment for people..not for profit developers.

There is plenty of land available in Saint John for development other than our park

On the other side of Sandy Point Road there are 180 plus lots available for sale for homes and condos and possibly apartments that will not cost the city a dime and our understanding is that this developer will be going forward early sometime next year.

For those that have not heard about this proposed development by the current private owner that has 100 acres, again just across the road adjacent to Rockwood Park..it is more financally benefical for this developer to develop this subdivision and condos and generate millions of dollars for the city tax base without the City of Saint John having to spend any taxpayers money..

Its a win win situation for the City and the Taxpayers for this Private development to go forward

I really have to ask why is the City trying to rush all this through and sell this land that is only valued at $344000.

If they go this route it will cost the Saint John taxpayers many millions of dollars to upgrade the road, lighting..sewers and the costs of preparing the road for a lot more traffic than it is designed for..this is just the start of many of our money spent when the city is financially inept.

As Im sure a lot of people have read or heard about the current state of finances with the city..

This will also generate a very large tax base to the city and will preserve our beautiful Rockwood Park the way it is now and should remain.

If this is not opposed high rise wood frame apartment buildings are going to be built here.

Please we urgently need your support by attending this meeting on this coming Monday December 20th 2010 at 7 PM at City Hall, Chipman Hill, Council Chambers
