I have of course never gotten anything at the bank besides USD-can you buy euros? What about Czechoslovakian crowns?

You can buy anything, but they may have to order the currency to have it available from one of the larger branches.
If I'm travelling somewhere odd, I'll convert Cdn. to US travellers checks, get a bit of walk-around money from one of the airport kiosks en-route, then convert the US travellers checks to local currency at one of that country's banks.
